Young Ontarians United is a provincial advocacy project to unite youth voice in the fight against COVID-19.
We aim to first understand how young people are challenged by this pandemic and collect the opinions of youth from marginalized communities.
We hope to advocate for inclusive methods of helping young Ontarians in these difficult times and present recommendations to the Province of Ontario and all Ontarians.
Even through a pandemic, we're making Ontario our "place to grow".
This project is an initiative of
who are we trying to amplify ?
Rural and remote youth communities
Youth in care
First Nations youth
Black and other racialized minority youth
Youth with disabilities
NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) youth
Newcomer, immigrant and refugee youth
Developing a plan to effectively amplify youth voice in Ontario, by surveying, consulting special groups, conducting focus groups and reporting on whats needed during COVID-19.
The first step is figuring out what the experts are saying. We recognize that youth-led/focused groups with expertise on issues facing young people have key insights into how COVID-19 affects different youth in different ways. This is why we're hearing them out first.
We also need to listen to youth all across Ontario, which is why we're creating a dynamic survey that will actually hear the individual voices of any young Ontarian that chooses to fill it out. We will also be conducting focus groups with youth.
Our ultimate goal is taking all this research to create the first-ever provincial youth-written comprehensive report on young Ontarians, and making this a report that not just government, but all of society can learn from to create change in our provincial community.
